In 2005, when Bollywood was already shifting toward greater glamour and skin-show, Lara Dutta drew a clear line.
“I will never wear a bikini on screen again,” she said. “The skin thing is no longer in.”
By 2008–2009 the trend had peaked. Bold beach looks became a standard publicity tool. Kareena Kapoor with Saif Ali Khan in Tashan, Priyanka Chopra alongside John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in Dostana, Amrita Arora in Kambakkht Ishq, Rani Mukerji in Dil Bole Hadippa, and several other pairings all used striking swimsuit sequences to draw attention. Many generated heavy pre-release buzz, though commercial results remained mixed.
Against that wave, Lara broke her own rule in 2009 — and she did it for Sanjay Dutt in Blue.
